Monthly Meetings
Monthly meetings are our way to keep in touch. It’s a chance to catch up, share what you’ve been working on, and see what others have been finding out in the field or creating in the workshop.
At each meeting everyone:
- Signs in & receives a raffle ticket for door prizes
- Can participate in club updates and business discussions led by our president
- Enjoys a presentation or demonstration about rockhounding
- Partakes in coffee, tea and snacks
- Goes home excited about more rockhounding!
It’s a relaxed, welcoming space whether you’re brand new or have been at this for years.
Guests are always welcome, please bring a friend or family member. Service animals are welcome but we ask that you only bring well behaved fur family members on fieldtrips, not to meetings indoors.
We meet at 7:00 p.m. on the Fourth Wednesday of the month at The HUB gym.
Meeting location: The HUB, 2375 Koksilah Rd, in Cowichan Station.
Discover Vancouver Island: Rockhounding Field Trips
Field trips are a big part of what we do, and over the years our members have covered a lot of ground across Vancouver Island. From local beaches and riverbeds to old mine sites, mountain trails, and some of the more tucked-away spots, there’s a long history of exploring this island together.
There’s a real depth of knowledge in the group—members who’ve been rockhounding these areas for decades and are always willing to share what they know, whether it’s how to spot something worth picking up or the story behind where it came from.
Trips are a mix of learning, exploring, and just getting out there. Some are easy, family-friendly outings, others a bit more adventurous, but there’s always something to discover along the way.
Locations and conditions can change, so for the most up-to-date details on upcoming trips, join the club!
Learn Lapidary Arts: Classes and Workshops Available
Members regularly teach classes across a range of lapidary arts—everything from cabbing and slab cutting to polishing, drilling, and finishing your own stones. We also offer silversmithing, wire wrapping, and other ways to turn your finds into something you can actually wear or display. There’s a small fee per morning and/or afternoon session to help cover equipment wear and tear, as well as power.
We also run more casual, skill-sharing workshops where members get together to work on things like beading, wire wrapping, and whatever project happens to be on the go.
To find out more you can contact us, or check out our Facebook page where class sign up links will now be posted.
